- Enhanced ZerO2™ unit reduces emissions from tanks and truck loading
DENVER, CO (March 30, 2020) – EcoVapor Recovery Systems, LLC, today announced the successful installation, startup and high-uptime operation of a ZerO2 E300 unit on a 3-well DJ Basin pad. The operator is an independent E&P company who agreed to pilot an enhanced system that significantly lowers emissions from both oil storage tank and truck loading vapors.
CEO Mike McMahon said, “Emissions due to oil storage tank vapor and crude or condensate truck loading vapor losses can now be significantly reduced with an affordable, integrated vapor control system. Operators adopting this technology will easily meet all federal and state regulatory requirements and will be able to complete more wells per pad.”
More than 110 ZerO2 installations are operating in US shale basins to eliminate millions of tons of greenhouse gas and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from oil storage tanks on wellsites and at central processing facilities. With new enhancements, the ZerO2 system can now capture vapor that would normally be vented to the atmosphere as crude oil is loaded from storage tanks to tanker trucks. In a typical tanker truck loading operation for every 100-barrel loadout, about 40 pounds of volatile organic compounds are emitted. Given the 3-well DJ pilot system’s daily production, approximately 80 tons per year of emissions are being reduced from truck loadouts alone on one DJ Basin 3-well pad.
In addition to significantly reducing VOC emissions, ZerO2 systems maintains a low vapor pressure in storage tanks and destroys oxygen downstream of the tanks prior to entry into the gas sales line. This capability reduces risk and helps avoid midstream operational integrity problems in pipelines and compressor stations. In addition to the safety benefits, operators improve asset value by adding high-BTU tank vapor and truck loading vapor to the sales lines. As a result, EcoVapor ZerO2 systems pay for themselves in less than a year while significantly reducing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and the need to flare.
